A career in wedding planning may sound glamorous and exciting but have you considered all of the pros and cons?

Some things to think about in your quest for a wedding planning career to insure you are suited to the task include:

Must be able to organize multiple tasks and follow up in a timely manner. Every detail has to be smoothly coordinated.

Diplomacy is imperative. You need to be able to make a point without offending your clients. Never boldy tell a bride to be that her idea is a bad one. Instead, offer an alternative suggestion. Don't say "Oh no, emerald green is awful with hot pink." You might respond with "Hmm, that's an interesting choice but perhaps a shimmering ivory would add an elegant touch." Choose your words carefully!

Can you present yourself as an authority figure without offending?

How well do you handle stress? Not only will the wedding couple have a million questions and demands but remember you will be dealing with vendors as well. The florist, bakery, limo service, bridesmaids, groomsmen, etc. will all have questions and needs surrounding the event.

The mother of both the bride and groom will have opinions on everything putting stress on you and the wedding couple. Part of your wedding planning job is to keep the bride informed, reassured and as calm as possible.

This all sounds quite negative but if you have the organizational skills and can take the pressure, a wedding planning career can be rewarding. With a proper checklist, you will not only get through it but also enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done when you witness the wedding couples happiness firsthand.
